Dragon & Tiger is based on Tohaku Hasegawa's (1539-1610) original, which is held in the collection of the Boston Museum of Fine Arts. Painted during a turning point in Japanese history - the transition from Momoyama to the Edo Period - Hasegawa attempts to express the confusion of his day. The dragon brings heavy rain, the tiger invokes a storm.
