The Kansai-based Orix Buffaloes were formed after the 2004 season with the merger of Orix BlueWave and the Osaka Kintetsu Buffaloes, the former teams of Japanese MLB legends Ichiro and Nomo respectively. LA Dodgers' pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto previously played for Orix Buffaloes.
